The rising lyric soprano Athanasia Zöhrer “convinces with limitless vocal power, a securely guided soprano voice, [and] enormous musicality” (Das Opernglas, 2023). She has already appeared as a soloist at some of Europe’s most renowned opera houses, including the Semperoper Dresden, the Hamburg State Opera, Deutsche Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf, Leipzig Opera, Opéra National de Montpellier, and the State Opera Hanover.
In the 2025–2026 season, Athanasia Zöhrer is a permanent ensemble member of the Leipzig Opera, where she presents the breadth of her core repertoire alongside a highly anticipated role debut. She opens her season with her debut as Fiordiligi in a new production of Mozart’s Così fan tutte. She can also be heard as Gilda (Rigoletto), Mimì (La Bohème), and Violetta (La Traviata).
Artistic highlights of recent seasons include her debut as Mathilde in Rossini’s Guillaume Tell and her role debut as Rosalinde alongside Rolando Villazón in Die Fledermaus at Theater St. Gallen. She made her debut as Violetta in La Traviata at Theater Chemnitz. At the Leipzig Opera, she sang Adina (L’elisir d’amore), Pamina (Die Zauberflöte), and Gilda in Verdi’s Rigoletto. At the Hamburg State Opera, she sang Zerlina (Don Giovanni), debuted as Mimì in Puccini’s La Bohème at Theater Kiel, and performed Michaëla (Carmen). She made her Mozart Week debut in the children’s opera Der Alte Baum. Zöhrer gave her role debut as Agathe (Der Freischütz) at the Salzburg State Theatre in the Felsenreitschule, appeared as Sifare in Mozart’s Mitridate at Théâtre de Lausanne, and sang Virginia in Das Gespenst von Canterville at the Vienna Volksoper. At Hanover State Opera, she performed roles such as Corinna (Il viaggio a Reims), Gretel (Hänsel und Gretel), Nannetta (Falstaff), and Servilia (La clemenza di Tito).
On the concert stage, Athanasia Zöhrer toured France with a Mozart program alongside the Orchestre national des Pays de la Loire and appeared with Rolando Villazón in a gala concert at the Koncerthuset in Copenhagen. She made her debut in Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 with the Philharmonic Orchestra Kiel and performed Brahms’ Requiem in Vienna.
Born in Berlin to Greek–Austrian parents, the soprano earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Classical Singing and Opera at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg. She is a recipient of scholarships from the Hübel Foundation and the Gianna Szell Scholarship and has been honored with the prestigious Prize of the Austrian Federal Ministry for Education, Science and Research.
In 2014, Athanasia Zöhrer won the joint prize of the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Komische Oper Berlin, and the Berlin State Opera at the German National Singing Competition. In 2022, she was a finalist in the Francesc Viñas Competition in Barcelona.

Sie präsentierte ihr Rollendebüt als Agathe (Der Freischütz) am Salzburger Landestheater/Felsenreitschule, Sifare in Mozarts Mitridate am Theater Lausanne und Virginia in Das Gespenst von Canterville an der Volksoper Wien. An der Staatsoper Hannover sang sie Partien wie Corinna (Il viaggio a Reims), Gretel (Hänsel und Gretel), Nannetta (Falstaff) und Servilla (La clemenza di Tito).
Auf der Konzertbühne präsentierte Athanasia Zöhrer auf einer Tournee durch Frankreich ein Mozart-Programm mit dem Orchestre national des Pays de la Loire und trat neben Rolando Villazón in einem Galakonzert im Koncerthuset Kopenhagen auf. Sie sang ihr Debüt in Mahlers 2. Sinfonie mit dem Philharmonischen Orchester Kiel und Brahms Requiem in Wien.
Die in Berlin geborene Sopranistin mit griechisch-österreichischen Wurzeln absolvierte ihr Bachelor- und Masterstudium in klassischem Gesang und Oper am Mozarteum in Salzburg. Sie ist Stipendiatin der Hübel-Stiftung und des Gianna-Szell-Stipendiums und wurde mit dem renommierten „Preis des österreichischen Bundesministeriums für Bildung, Wissenschaft und Forschung“ ausgezeichnet.
Beim Bundeswettbewerb 2014 gewann Athanasia Zöhrer den gemeinsamen Preis der Deutschen Oper Berlin, der Komischen Oper und der Staatsoper Berlin. Im Jahr 2022 war Athanasia Zöhrer Finalistin des Francesco Vinas Wettbewerbs in Barcelona.
